Priorities
Cliff O’Conner’s priorities – improve infrastructure- especially roads and bridges, reduce millage rate -which means lowering property taxes and the cost of car tags, and economic development

Infrastructure improvements has been the number one priority of the entire board since the day they were sworn in. Bridges, roads, pipes, and ditches have long been an area of concern in Tate County.

O’Conner has made a commitment to making improvements every day to the infrastructure in Tate County. O’Conner was instrumental in helping Tate County achieve success in the major infrastructure improvements seen so far. Creating an efficient road department was the first step. Creating and implanting a road plan was next. Hiring a professional Road Manager was vital to the efficiency of the department. While current goals are being met and exceeded, future plans are underway with the new Tate County Comprehensive plan.

O’Conner’s real estate and investing background has aided Tate County leadership in a new property development. Cliff’s work with Economic Development is helping to create a vibrant economy and creating new opportunities in Tate County.

O’Conner has been part of a team that has gone line by line on the budget to cut costs, improve services, update contracts and restructure where needed. By examining each line item and existing contract, the team has been able to save Tate County Government hundreds of thousands of dollars. The team has been able to use these savings to provide improved services to the citizens of Tate County and competitive salary and benefits to our employees. O’Conner is working with other leaders to ensure our millage rate continues to lower. The millage rate has decreased for the last three years 152.52 in FY 2019 to 136.81 FY 2022. This decrease helps lower property taxes and decreases the costs of car tags.
